5 people facing charges following drug trafficking investigation in Thunder Bay

Five people are facing charges following a provincial police investigation in the region.

On Wednesday, city police and OPP officers searched a home in Thunder Bay as part of a region-wide, months-long drug trafficking investigation.

During the search, officers seized suspected cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, scales, and cash.

Three people were also arrested.

Later that same day officers with the Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement team stopped a vehicle and arrested another suspect in the investigation for outstanding warrants.

The driver and passenger were also arrested and charged, and a quantity of suspected cocaine, cash, and a pistol magazine were found in the vehicle and seized.

On Thursday a second home in the community was searched.

Officers found and seized suspected crystal methamphetamine, a loaded handgun, and two rifles.

As a result of the investigation, the following was seized:

  • 142.18g of cocaine
  • 305g of methamphetamine
  • 1 handgun & ammunition
  • 2 rifles
  • Scales, baggies, and other evidence of drug trafficking

A 22-year-old from Thunder Bay is facing the following charges:

  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm (three counts)
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition (three counts)
  • Careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition (three counts)
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammo
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine

A 22-year-old from Atikokan is facing the following:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for trafficking – cocaine
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000

A 44-year-old from Calgary is facing the following charges:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000
  • Failure to comply with release order, contrary to the Criminal Code (two counts)

A 38-year-old and 64-year-old from Thunder Bay are facing the following charges:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000

All of the accused remain in custody with future court dates.
