Man Charged In Current River Murder

A charge of second-degree murder has been laid against a 40-year-old Thunder Bay man in relation to an Arundel Street death.

Police tell us Johnathon Mark McKay appeared in bail court this morning and was remanded in custody until December 11th.

The victim has been identified as 41-year-old Nazareth Andrew Kwandibens. Police are still guarding the Current River scene.

Officers were called to a home just after 2 pm Wednesday to reports of a death. Emergency officials tried to revive the victim but were unable to. The Major Crimes Unit is confirming the nature of the death is consistent with a homicide.

Police tell us the accused and victim were known to each other and describe them as acquaintances. Detective Sgt. Tracy Lewis adds they would like to hear from the public if they know any information about the victim and what he was doing in the days prior to his death. Anyone who lives on Arundel near Hodder who has a video security system can also contact police to provide them with that footage.
