City Expanding It’s Plastics Recycling Program

More containers have been approved to go into your recycling.

Starting May 1, the City of Thunder Bay has expanded its recycling program to accept plastic containers #1 – #7.

In a written release Manager of Solid Waste & Recycling Services, Jason Sherbrand, said “This is something the community has been asking for, for a very long time. To finally get to the point where we can offer this service, is really exciting. We now have a program of acceptable material that is comparable or better than any other recycling program in the province.”

Acceptable containers will now include yogurt containers, sour cream and many other items as long as they have the triangle with the number 1 through to 7 inside of it on the container.

A reminder to residents to rinse out the containers first before tossing them in the recycling and to look for that recycling number to make sure it’s compatible.
