Poplar Hill Evacuees Leave Kenora

Some evacuees from the Poplar Hill First Nation are heading home.

One week ago, the City of Kenora accepted 75 evacuees from that community, who have been staying in a high school.

They were fleeing Red Lake forest fire #65, which is sized at 16,651 hectares and is 6 kilometres northwest of the community.

City officials say Chief Howard Comber has let them know they appreciated the accommodations.

They add it was a privilege to help Poplar Hill, and Kenora is ready to host them again if needed.

Thunder Bay is hosting 300 evacuees.
