Cautious optimism from Thunder Bay’s medical officer of health as COVID-19 cases keep dropping for the district.
As the province slowly moves to reopen, Janet DeMille points out she’s watching to see numbers drop even further.
“Especially with our immunization rates going up, I do feel overall, quite comfortable with the reopening process, and how it’s laid out. I don’t anticipate I would want to add any further restrictions,” says DeMille.
Friday the health unit had no cases to report, and with the one resolved, the current active number is 29, which is continually dropping. Provincially it’s at 345, and one death.
But, you won’t see her making any big changes.
DeMille says while she has no control over some provincial rules, there are local adjustments she can do, if needed. “One of those was used when I closed in-person learning in schools back in March. And the other one would be the Health Protection and Promotion Act, that I could implement certain measures if I felt it was needed.”
The medical officer adds the health unit has taken many calls, the major of people understanding of the measures taken by the health unit.
