Premier Plodding On To Find Streetcar Work

A firm belief from the province’s Premier everything has to be made in Ontario.

In Acadia Broadcasting’s exclusive interview with Doug Ford, he revealed the federal government outsourced a $500-million VIA rail deal to California, calling it mindboggling.

“Rather than produce them in Thunder Bay. I believe in taking care of our own. We deliver quality products out of that facility, and there’s no reason at all that we should be shipping these out to California,” noted the premier.

However, he is pleased the federal and provincial governments recently ensured Thunder Bay will make 60 vehicles for the Toronto Transit Commission.

The Premier also hinted at finding more street car work for transit systems, beyond the recent order for the Alstom plant. “We’re also working with Metrolinks, to get a bunch more bi-level coaches refurbished.”

The premier added there are always bumps when the province and federal government work to sign deals, as with these 60 vehicles, but they worked through it.

In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
