Area Vaccine Supply A Guessing Game

Uncertainty surrounds the supplies of COVID-19 vaccines for the region.

The medical officer of health for the Thunder Bay District Health Unit, Dr. Janet DeMille, tells us there will be no Moderna this week and reduced shipments of Pfizer next week since vaccines are being redistributed to provincial hotspots.

“I think our recent reduction in Pfizer might have been related to that but…the plan is to compensate that through Moderna and AstraZeneca,” says DeMille.

However, she was able to tell us our region will be getting about 2,500 doses of Pfizer next week which is about 1,000 doses lower than what we have been getting on a weekly basis.

At the same time though, DeMille could not tell us how much, if any Moderna or AstraZeneca vaccine the district will be allotted next week.

The health official does not anticipate the need to cancel any vaccination appointments which have been made.
