Immigration Project Getting Help From FedNor

Almost half a million dollars is going towards the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot project.

The Community Economic Development Commission is one of several Thunder Bay-Superior North initiatives that will receive support from FedNor.

FedNor, which stands for the Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario, is investing $490,500 to help the CEDC with the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot.

“[The money] will help maintain our three year contract for a program coordinator,” CEDC CEO Eric Zakrewski said. “It’s a local position in our office that helps administer the program under a deal with the federal government.”

The CEO notes the money will also be used for promotion and education.

Others Getting Funds

  • $262,175 for Red Rock Indian Band
  • $181,500 for the Northern Policy Institute
  • $96,500 for the Township of Nipigon $96,500

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
