Update 9:30am, Thursday:
A 35-year old Thunder Bay man is facing weapon and assault charges after a north end standoff.
About a dozen police vehicles swarmed the Sea-Vue motel on Cumberland Street early Wednesday evening, to find the man assaulted a woman inside a room. She managed to get away. Police also found out he may have had a gun.
Police add the two hour standoff began when the accused ignored police calls to leave the building.
Once the man left the room, police say he waved an object at them, claiming it was a knife, and demanded police use their guns.
Police used a taser to arrest the man, which included a brief struggle.
The man made a court appearance Thursday, and remains in custody with a future court date.
He is charged with:
– Assault
– Assault with a Weapon or Causing Bodily Harm
– Mischief Under $5,000
– Resist Peace Officer
– Failure to Comply with a Judicial Release
– Uttering Threats – Death or Bodily Harm
The Major Crimes Unit is also investigating.
