Inquiries ‘Likely’ After Pandemic

Expect a probe into why Thunder Bay has had such a high number of COVID-19 cases.

The current numbers in the district (267 per 100,000) are higher than even Toronto or Peel Region.

Medical Officer of Health Dr. Janet DeMille believes once the pandemic ends such an inquiry is probably inevitable.

“There’ll likely be a lot of reviews that will happen…looking at how we were vulnerable,” says DeMille, “We could do some of that work locally, but I anticipate there will be some done provincially and nationally.”

The health official notes what we learn from this pandemic will help deal with future viruses.

In discussing the current case counts Dr. DeMille is cautiously optimistic if we stick to the protocols the next several weeks could see some improvement.

She indicates since we are in the grey-lockdown area “That should help bend the curve downwards…that usually takes two to three weeks to appear.”
