Day one for Thunder Bay seniors over the age of 85 to be vaccinated against COVID-19, at the CLE grounds on Wednesday.
One of them, long-time resident Barbara Northcott, pointed out some very compelling reasons for going before offering up her arm.
Not only does she have complete confidence in the vaccine, she’s expecting it to carry her to the other side of the pandemic. “It’s scary for people of our age. We want to know if we’re going to make it through the pandemic. I’m expecting a new great-grandchild this month, and I want to be here to see that great-grandchild for a few years yet.”
She was expecting a bit of soreness in her arm after.
Another woman who’s been here all her life, Margorie Gelmych, told us after she got it not only did she need it to be safe against COVID-19, but the pandemic has kept her cooped up.
“It’s pretty boring, I tell you! My daughter is good at coming with me for groceries,” says Gelmych.
She was also impressed with how the clinic is run.
89-year-old Ernie Slongo is encouraging you to get the vaccine.
After getting his shot, the Thunder Bay native tells us it was quite the experience receiving something he thinks is a good thing. “It’s well run, very well run. You go through a lot of different things. It’s very good… go and get it!”
He adds he did not feel any different after receiving the dose.
Officials at the CLE are asking you to show up at the time given, as some are showing up too early. And, some are showing up without an appointment, and an appointment is needed.
