Elective Surgery Changes Starting Monday

If you have an elective surgery coming up at the hospital, you’d better check to see if it’s still happening.

In response to the increase in coronavirus cases, officials in the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre say effective Monday, patients and physicians will be prioritized to 75% of prior volumes, to ensure that if more COVID-19 patients come in the hospital is ready.

Hospital President and CEO Rhonda Crocker Ellacott says thanks to a new shipment of vaccines, 750 high priority individuals will be vaccinated per day, with the goal set at over 3,000 vaccines administered by the end of Sunday.

As of Thursday, the hospital is dealing with sixteen patients in the COVID-19 ward and six patients in the Intensive Care Unit.

Both the hospital and Thunder Bay District Health Unit have put in a request with the province for increased vaccine supply, they hope to hear back in the next few days.
