Watch: I Don’t Get It But…

Is it a testament to the times that this is happening? I don’t get it.

Valentine’s Day is this Sunday and it’s supposed to be a day to celebrate love and show the people in your life that you love them. Okay, it’s a made up holiday meant to sell cards, candy, flowers, etc. in a month that is usually abysmal for most retailers. Sure, that’s a pessimistic view, but it’s true. I’ve always been a fan of showing the people I love that I love them every day, but sure I buy in occasionally and get something a little extra for Valentine’s Day.

But I sure wouldn’t spend the money or effort to hate on an ex, which seems to be a big trend right now.

The Lexington Humane Society in Kentucky will write your ex’s name in a litter box and let their cats do their business on it for only $10. (see video below). They’re not the only one’s though! The San Antonio Zoo is offering to let you symbolically name a cockroach after your ex and they will feed it to one of their animals for only $5. For $25 you can name a pre-frozen rat after your ex and they’ll feed it to their snakes (video also below). Of course these aren’t the only examples of ‘getting back at your ex’ on Valentine’s Day, but they sure seem to be the angriest ones! Without actually causing physical or emotional harm to an ex, that is.

On one hand, I think it’s a great way for these places to raise some much needed funds, particularly in these unpredictable times. On the other hand, I can’t imagine getting any satisfaction or closure on a relationship by doing this. Feeding an ex directly to a Komodo Dragon…or perhaps a Tiger?….that I understand!
