McKinnon Wants City To Look Into Snowgates

Red River Ward Councillor Brian McKinnon wants city administration to look into possibly purchasing snow gates.

The piece of equipment attaches to the snow plow, and lowers when the plow goes in front of a driveway with the flip of a switch. Once past the driveway entrance, the gate comes up and pushes snow to the side of the road.

The township of Ignace just purchased a snow gate for $15,000, which according to McKinnon, is different than what he’s been told by administration.

“We’ve been told that the gate would have to be on a completely different tractor and that it would have to follow a separate tractor,” says McKinnon. “The one that is in Ignace is hooked up to just one tractor, they do the plow part and then the gate pushes the snow all in one swoop.”

The Red River councillor believes any future purchase would have to be included in the 2022 budget.
