Better make sure you are legally driving when on the road.
Thunder Bay police sergeant Tom Armstrong tells us since mid December, they have been using highly effective cameras that record license plates, which provides data of any vehicle on the road. “I think every day numerous suspended drivers. I’ve got drivers with warrants, also some with extremely old validation that turned into plates that didn’t belong on a vehicle, that turned into suspended driver with no insurance.”
It’s called the Automated License Plate Recognition scanner, that instantly finds any data pertinent to the vehicle.
“So this ALPR program, it can also recognize vehicles if they’ve been flagged as being part of an Amber Alert, or missing person, it can also register a hit for that, if there’s a missing child,” says Armstrong.
The police sergeant adds the system, which includes four cameras on the top of the police vehicle, costs about $30,000.
