Cool Basement Perfect For Boxing: Panetta

Another hidden gem of the new Underground Gym on Victoria Avenue is a solid basement for youth to use.

Founder Peter Panetta tells us an architect, who is providing free upgrades to the three floors, figures the building is roughly 100 years old and the basement is in great shape. “This is solid, it’s not going anywhere. And it’s dry, I’ve never seen a drop of condensation down here, at all. So that’s important.”

The gym founder adds he plans to have much of the boxing and physical activity down there since it is cooler in the 5,000 square foot basement.

“Now I can visualize a boxing ring here, and a boxing gym, and a workout gym. There’s tonnes of space here, and it literally will be an underground gym,” says Panetta.

He may still adjust how he sets up different rooms on the main floor and upstairs, but hopes for a former music studio to be used so aspiring musicians can make recordings and see what they can offer.

Panetta adds donations of money and equipment keep coming, as he hopes to be open end of January. First, he must get a building permit, saying area architects, plumbers and electricians are offering their services for free to upgrade the facility, costing thousands of dollars, to get the gym ready.
