Phase One Done On C.W. Parker Carousel

The next phase of the C.W. Parker Carousel.

The Friends of Chippewa Park and Carousel Restoration Committee set to appear before council to update a few things:

  • The restoration of the C.W. Parker Carousel
  • Construction plans of a building to house and protect the restored Carousel
  • Work being performed at Chippewa Park by The Friends of Chippewa Park (Job Creation Partnership program funded by the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development)
  • Celebration plans for the 100th Anniversary of the Official Opening of Chippewa Park in 2021

The presentation will also include a request for Council to partner with The Friends of Chippewa Park in a Stage II application to the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation for 50% of the capital cost of the building.

Council will also be asked to endorse an application to Heritage Canada under its Community Celebrations Fund for $500,000 towards the capital cost of the new building.

The group also needs help to cover a cost of $300,000, which is the remaining funding required for the new building.

Also at city council Monday night, a request to add another $500,000 to the total cost to repair the Marina Park pedestrian overpass, as well as a decision on whether to include a traffic roundabout at the corner of Redwood and Edward in the 2021 budget.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
