The next phase of the C.W. Parker Carousel.
The Friends of Chippewa Park and Carousel Restoration Committee set to appear before council to update a few things:
- The restoration of the C.W. Parker Carousel
- Construction plans of a building to house and protect the restored Carousel
- Work being performed at Chippewa Park by The Friends of Chippewa Park (Job Creation Partnership program funded by the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development)
- Celebration plans for the 100th Anniversary of the Official Opening of Chippewa Park in 2021
The presentation will also include a request for Council to partner with The Friends of Chippewa Park in a Stage II application to the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation for 50% of the capital cost of the building.
Council will also be asked to endorse an application to Heritage Canada under its Community Celebrations Fund for $500,000 towards the capital cost of the new building.
The group also needs help to cover a cost of $300,000, which is the remaining funding required for the new building.
Also at city council Monday night, a request to add another $500,000 to the total cost to repair the Marina Park pedestrian overpass, as well as a decision on whether to include a traffic roundabout at the corner of Redwood and Edward in the 2021 budget.
