The Northwestern Health Unit is once again encouraging people to avoid non-essential travel.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kit Young-Hoon says there are no restrictions, but notes COVID-19 numbers continue to rise across the province as well as in the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority.
“I think at this point individuals need to be aware of the risk if they choose to travel domestically,” Young-Hoon says. They need to think about why they are travelling and the risks and benefits of travelling. Perhaps consider not travelling if they feel that the risk outweighs the benefits.”
If you do want to travel in the region or head to Manitoba, Young-Hoon reminds you to follow public health guidelines like keeping your distance, wearing masks in enclosed public spaces, washing your hands, and avoiding touching your face. She says you should also get tested and stay home if you are unwell, avoid public transit, and avoid situations where it’s difficult to physically distance.
She says you should also avoid situations with a lot of shouting or singing.
She adds if you do hit the road, you should self-monitor for 14 days after travel, and if you feel you were at high risk of getting COVID-19 you should self-isolate for 14 days after potential exposure.
