Marc Staal Heads To Detroit Red Wings

Another Staal brother is making the move in the NHL.

Defenseman Marc Staal is leaving the New York Rangers, and will play in Detroit next season. The Rangers have also traded a second round draft pick to the Red Wings in exchange for future considerations.

The Thunder Bay native played in New York for 13 seasons, one of those ended up in a trip to the Stanley Cup in 2013-14 season, and the Eastern Conference Final a number of times.

Marc’s brother Eric was recently traded from Minnesota Wild to Buffalo.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
