Four Charged In Alleged Nipigon Kidnapping

Two more people have been charged in connection to an alleged kidnapping in Nipigon.

Police say a man was abducted, forcibly confined and assaulted with a gun in Nipigon on September 14th, but managed to escape and was taken to hospital with significant injuries.

A few days later, on September 18th, police arrested 29-year old Harold Robert Sault, of Lake Helen First Nation, and on Wednesday, they say they picked up 45-year old Jayson Lawson-Balodis, of Nipigon, charging both men with a number of offenses.

They remain in custody, facing a kidnapping while using certain firearms charge, also aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, and a variety of firearm related offenses.

Police have Andrew Otway, of Thunder Bay, and Billy John Thompson, of Nipigon, also in custody.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
