Council Waits For Police Station Report

Whether Thunder Bay gets a new police or not rests on how the city can maneuvre its money.

Speaking to city council Monday night, Treasurer Linda Evans points out if a police station was needed today, a $30-million loan would be available, but that could change.

“The fact that the homes debenture will mature in 2024. So that will free up a significant amount of principal and interest payments,” says Evans.

However, she adds this is assuming city council doesn’t identify further projects between now and then.

Police chief Sylvie Hauth is reporting to the police services board next month, and city council in November.
