Smile Cookie Fundraiser Gaining Popularity

COVID-19 is not stopping Tim Horton store owners from the Smile Cookie charity campaign.

Brent Prepp is the owner of the Waterloo Street location, and tells us he’s found a way to get those cookies made even though he has one person working in the kitchen due to the pandemic. “We’ve changed the process a bit with how we make the cookies, we’re basically doing a cookie factory at one of our locations, that doesn’t bake at night, and that store is making cookies and decorating all night long.”

He adds the program keeps growing in popularity, as last year close to 73,000 cookies were sold, the year before it was around 50,000.

All sales from this week’s fundraiser not only benefit Thunder Bay fire fighter’s Toys for Tots charity, but also the George Jeffrey Children’s Foundation.

Tina Bennett is the Foundations’s CEO, and points out this campaign will greatly help as they look to expand services for families, in the face of a pandemic. “We’ve had a number of added expenses to the workplace this year, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. We’ve received support from the ministry to help cover some of those costs.”
