Solicitor General Sylvia Jones has announced the hiring of an additional 200 Ontario Provincial Police officers.
“The new hiring initiative is part of the continued steps our government is taking to improve the OPP’s workplace culture and support OPP personnel as they go above an beyond to serve in our communities,” notes Jones.
The recruitment project follows recommendations made by the OPP Independent Review Panel in its final report released in March.
It was established in 2019 to study the workplace culture at the OPP.
The panel was also tasked with examining how the provincial police address issues of mental health, occupational stress injuries and suicide among its members and with providing a series of recommendations.
The announcement was made at OPP headquarters in Orillia by Jones, Premier Doug Ford, and OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique.
