The success of a 9-year-old Thunder Bay boy’s summer bike-riding fund-raiser has left him amazed.
Michael Vita tells us he never imaged he would have raised over $7,000, so far, for the Thunder Bay Regional hospital. “I wasn’t expecting to raise this much money total, maybe a couple thousand, but not this much.”
He adds a few weeks ago, he broke his wrist, and couldn’t ride for two and a half weeks.
“I was biking and I crashed into a parked car, on the side of the road,” says Michael.
His father, Dominic, says family and friends have donated, but also so many people they don’t even know, who’ve heard Michael’s story. He adds they’re very proud of the success his son has had at this point of the summer for the hospital.
“They’re very pleased. They’ve been very supportive, very encouraging for Michael. There’s two hospital members also planning to do a ride with Michael,” Dominic proudly points out.
Dominic adds Mayor Bill Mauro contacted Michael, who wanted to ride with him, which they did recently. Heather Vita says as of this weekend her son has neared his 1000km goal for the summer… which is only half over.
