Liberals Unveil School Plan, Demand Same From PCs

The provincial Liberals want to hire more teachers in Thunder Bay as part of the party’s Students in Schools Action Plan.

The Liberals say the plan would cost $3.2 billion and would fund 15,000 more elementary school teachers, 10,000 caretakers for elementary and secondary schools, and create 14,000 new classrooms in community centres, campuses and arenas, among other expenditures.

“Since the government hasn’t unveiled a plan for the fall, I did,” says Liberal Leader Steven Del Duca.

“Doug Ford should have made this a priority months ago by meaningfully consulting with school boards, teachers, education workers, principals and parents. He has not.”

The Liberal plan would be to hire 140 additional educators and 110 caretakers for both boards in Thunder Bay.

Del Duca says they are more than willing to work with the provincial government on a safe reopening of schools.

“I would sincerely hope that the Premier would look at our plan. If they want to borrow from it or if they want to take it outright that would be awesome. We want to be collaborative and work with the provincial government,” Del Duca says.
