Restaurants’ Survival Depends On Local Support

The fate of local restaurants is now in the hands of the citizens of Thunder Bay.

Restauranter Bianca Garofalo says restaurants recovering from COVID-19 will really need to depend on locals and hopes people will choose to eat out.

Garofalo says it will be great to welcome guests back inside their establishments, but it hinges on if the patronage is there.

“It really depends on the support of the community, and how many people are dining, and whether or not we can remain subsidized until we can get back to a more normal level of sales,” Garofalo says.

The owner of Bight, El Tres and Giorg says the ability to have indoor seating helps them combat rainy days where they’ve basically had to close since they only could offer patio seating.

“Being able to serve customers when the weather isn’t cooperating with us is great; currently under phase 2 when it rains you basically have to shut down because you can’t bring people inside,” Garofalo says.
