Gas Line Ruptured While Digging

A ruptured gas line is behind the temporary closure of a south end street.

Thunder Bay Fire and Rescue was called to an area of Northern Avenue, just east of May Street, at around 1:30 Saturday afternoon, to find a homeowner had by accident cut a gas line while digging.

Fire crews made sure all neighbours left their homes and the street was blocked off in case of any potential explosions. The gas company eventually arrived and fixed the problem. There were no injuries reported.

Thunder Bay Fire and Rescue is reminding everyone to call the utility company first before digging to verify where a potential gas or utility line may be hidden.
