You might be able to put a third bag of garbage at the curb, if a city councillor has his way.
Albert Aiello is putting forth a motion at council Monday night, saying since COVID-19 came along, people are staying home more, resulting in more garbage.
“We’re encouraging residents and communities to help local businesses. A lot of that is takeout orders, which is a lot of garbage,” says the McIntyre councillor.
He also recalls when this was shot down before COVID-19 reared its ugly face, when people weren’t staying home.
“No one really knew how long this was going to last. We’re still in very uncertain times, but now that it’s going to be a long-haul, I think we just have to do something to alleviate,” says the councillor.
And, he says he’s promoting the idea since many people have approached him, noting more garbage is produced.
“It is getting warmer outside, and people don’t want garbage outside, especially with the heat. There are issues with public health and safety, glass is an example,” notes Aiello.
The city councillor believes his table colleagues will support it, which would allow the third bag every other week, not weekly.
