Unusual Start For New Executive Director

Our Kids Count is continuing to offer Big Brothers, Big Sisters during the pandemic but in a more COVID-19 friendly way.

Executive Director Kathryn Hughes tells us they are taking their meetings online.

“All of the big brothers and sisters are meeting with their littles but digitally. We are still keeping that program going,” Hughes said.

The new Executive Director says people in other programs who were getting weekly visits are now receiving them via video call.

Hughes’s first day on the job was March 30th during the height of the pandemic. She says it was unusual because she’s working in an office with a skeleton crew because most were laid off due to the pandemic.

Hughes adds she looks forward to seeing the rest of the staff when they can return to work.

Our Kids Counts cooking programs and group initiatives have had to change as well with the organization now delivering a cooked meal to around 50 families each week.
