$5.2M Contract Awarded For Balmoral Street Rebuild

An overhaul of a section of Balmoral Street has been approved for this year.

Last night, City Council awarded the $5.2-million contract to Nadin Contracting to rebuild the section from William Street to Hewitson Street. It includes adding two turning lanes at the intersection with the Harbour Expressway, multi-use trails on both sides of Balmoral, and a protected left-turn lane.

The project also features installation of storm sewers, asphalt resurfacing, and reconstruction of the Balmoral Street and Harbour Expressway intersection.

This is the second stage of reconstruction for Balmoral Street, following the first stage which finished in 2016. More work is coming in 2021 and 2022.

City officials say one lane of traffic in each direction will remain open during most of the construction. City Engineering Director Kayla Dixon told Council they will speak with area business owners who may be affected by the construction, and look into ways to speed up the work.
