New Plaque Marks Day Of Mourning

April 28th is a day to remember workers who were hurt or killed on the job.

The city is marking the National Day of Mourning with a new plaque in front of City Hall.

Mayor Bill Mauro says it stands for the city’s commitment to improve health and safety conditions for workers, and as a reminder that those decisions have an impact on workers’ lives.

The plaque reads “In remembrance of those workers who have died, or suffered an injury or illness as a result of their service to citizens of Thunder Bay”.

Mauro says they will not hold their usual public event due to provincial restrictions on gatherings over five people during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, The Thunder Bay and District Labour Council, in partnership with the Thunder Bay Injured Workers Support Group, is hosting a virtual ceremony at ten o’clock Tuesday morning.
