The province’s associate chief medical officer of health says screening for COVID-19 at places of employment is a good idea but it shouldn’t replace good hygiene and other protective measures.
Dr. Barbara Yaffe says checking employees temperatures may become a part of screening but it won’t be the be-all and end-all of it.
“It can be a component of screening but it is not foolproof, we know that some cases have no symptoms or a fever. If you do a temperature test on a hot summer day, a lot of people might have a higher temperature,” Yaffe said.
Yaffe stresses physical distancing, hand washing stations and other measures still need to be in place to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
