Thunder Bay’s Health Unit says they haven’t seen a significant surge in COVID-19 cases in their catchment area yet.
Medical Officer of Health, Janet DeMille says so far we’ve seen 55 cases with 37 being resolved.
“There are fourteen individuals where we have not determined where they got the virus from. These are further indications that the virus is in this community and that there is spread of the virus here,” DeMille said.
DeMille went on to say six people have required hospitalization and we haven’t had any deaths or outbreaks in long term care facilities.
The Medical Officer of Health says a surge in cases would impact the community and the health care system.
DeMille anticipates the coming weeks and months will see increased cases and community spread of the virus.
Officials note they have appointments available for their upcoming drive-through testing blitz at the Health Unit’s Balmoral HQ.
Contact the TBDHU at (807) 625-5900 or 1-888-294-6630 and you will be considered for testing this weekend.
