New Rules For Expectant Parents Set To Give Birth

New rules are in place at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital that will impact how local women give birth during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Carey Murphy is with Maternity Care Midwives and tells us these changes are big.

“Giving birth is such a pivotal part in somebody’s life, and women think about this process even before getting pregnant, and to have everything change so quickly is quite a lot for anybody to absorb,” Murphy said.

Some of the new rules include only allowing one essential care partner in and that person can only stay for six hours after the baby is born.

Murphy notes once you go into labour your partner must have the car seat, snacks, clothes and all other items they need for your visit since partners won’t be allowed to roam around the hospital or leave and come back.

The midwife says most soon-to-be parents are very understanding of why the rules have changed.
