Group Feels City Should Accept Evacuees

The group, Citizens United for a Sustainable Planet is unhappy with news the City is closed to potential First Nations evacuees during the COVID-19 pandemic.

CUSP says the move is not who we are as a city and that we should have the capacity to work in partnership with First Nation communities to help, should it be necessary.

City manager Norm Gale said earlier this week that at this time they are unable to provide the necessary support to evacuees so they could have a safe and pleasant stay.

Gale didn’t rule out hosting evacuees later in the season if conditions approve.
