Food Charities Take Preventative Action

Roots to Harvest is looking for donations so they can help local families who may not have enough money to buy emergency food supplies.

Spokesperson Erin Beagle says they are meeting today to discuss what they need to do to ensure food for the vulnerable populations of our city.

“There’s not a lot of food in the stores for people who don’t have a lot of extra income to go and get it. All of the places that are doing emergency food provisionings like Dew Drop Inn, Grace Place and Shelter House, are all moving to a takeout model, so everyone needs to shift,” Beagle notes.

Starting today, Grace Place, Shelter House and the Dew Drop Inn will all be offering a take home meal at this time and not welcoming people in to eat in mass gatherings.

The local charity is working on preparing meals for families who rely on breakfast, snack and lunch programs at now-closed schools.

The group is looking for donations of muffin cups, large ziplock bags, flour, bran, white and brown sugar, and other staples like eggs, milk, salt and oranges.
