Ontario’s Premier says consultation with the federal government will determine if travel restrictions to Canada will be put in place due to the coronavirus.
Doug Ford points out his cabinet is in Ottawa meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister.
“And Prime Minister, and the rest of the Premiers. I’m not going to answer for the rest of the country, but we have to be vigilant, keep an eye on our borders, and make sure that we’re doing proper screening,” says the Premier.
The province’s premier was responding to reporters’ questions in relation to President Trump stopping all air travel from Europe to the states for 30 days. Doug Ford added the federal government has done a good job in staying on top of the situation, and keeping in touch with the provinces.
Assessment centres to test for the coronavirus are being set up across the province by the Ford government. Health Minister Christine Elliott says so far there are six including one in Ottawa, designed to take pressure of hospitals.
“All hospitals have the ability to admit patients should they need to be admitted for COVID-19. They don’t all need to be treated in negative pressure rooms, they can be treated in isolation in other parts of the hospital,” adds the Health Minister.
We have reached out to the Thunder Bay District Health Unit to see if it’s aware of an assessment centre coming to the northwest.
