CUPE Upset Over Council Library Decision

City Council’s decision to reallocate $50,000 of funding from the Thunder Bay Public Library’s $6 million dollar budget isn’t sitting well with everyone.

The Canadian Union of Public Employees is calling the move “death by a thousand cuts.”

Local CUPE President Margaret Demillo feels the motivation behind the cuts is questionable since she feels there are no-cost savings per se, with the money being out into another budget line item, programs for youth.

Demillo says this move indicates that libraries are not valued by this council.
