January Warmth Not Seen Since 2006

It turns out last month was one of the warmest January’s we have had in 14 years.

Environment Canada’s Gerald Chang tells us what many may have suspected already. “Boy was it warm and mild, for the average daytime high it was -4.1 (degrees) and the normal should be about -8.6 so certainly a very warm January,” notes Chang.

He attributes the warming trend to the winter jet stream over Canada being pushed north allowing for the above-average temperatures.

The meteorologist tells us our January precipitation was about average for the month at 29 millimetres.
