Doctors Dance To Fight Cancer

There is a new fundraising effort for the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre to help buy a new PET scanner.

It’s called Dancing with the Docs, an initiative started by Patricia Del Paggio and her brother Joseph, who’s mother passed away from cancer last summer.

“We thought what better way than putting my brother and my two passions together, and so I’m the drama teacher and he’s the doctor, we put it together and we got ‘Dancing With the Docs’. So, she’s the inspiration, she’s the driving force behind everything that we do.”

Dr. Kathy Simpson works at the Regional Hospital in the palliative care ward, and will be testing her dancing skills for the machine.

“It is a special scan that looks at sugar uptake, which essentially looks at the physiology, or the activity of a cancer. So it can determine where a cancer is.”

The event is at the Valhalla Inn on May 2nd.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
