Blessing Boxes Expand To Schools

A popular wooden box filled with everyday supplies for those in need is now making its way into elementary schools in Thunder Bay. Westgate Highschool has teamed up with Giant Hearts to help build blessing boxes for local elementary schools.

Ashlee Burton is with Giant Hearts says they’ll start delivering their boxes in the new year. “The first box is going to McKellar Park school and it will be going up inside the school starting in January.” Menstrual products, snacks and school supplies are expected to be placed inside the blessing boxes.

Officials will be reaching out to other high school students so they can build similar boxes for other elementary schools in the city. Burton adds not only are the high school students helping out the younger students, but they are also learning essential woodworking skills.
