Council To Vote On Rural Policing

Thunder Bay City Council is expected to put its stamp of approval on the new policing contract with Oliver-Paipoonge this evening. The extension would mean the Thunder Bay Police Service would patrol Oliver-Paipoonge for the next four years.

Township Mayor Lucy Kloosterhuis says her council fully supports the contract extension since residents enjoy seeing a regular police presence on their streets.

About 20 years ago the community switched to the Thunder Bay police from the OPP.

The new contract is actually a five year deal that is retroactive to the beginning of this year.
