A new trailer for Cats has dropped (no joke, as I was writing this I accidentally typed “mew” instead of “new”!) The trailer is being met with a mixed response. For some, they’re really excited to see a star-studded cast (Dame Judi Dench, Sir Ian McKellen, Taylor Swift, Idris Elba, James Corden, Rebel Wilson, Jason Derulo, and Jennifer Hudson) bring a Broadway classic to the big screen. For others, there’s a serious creepiness-factor to seeing these cats walking and talking, singing and dancing and making a slew of feline puns. So, cool or creepy? Maybe a bit of both? It’s worth noting that when Andrew Lloyd Webber first brought Cats (which is based on T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats) to the stage in London and New York, investors thought the premise was weird and it wouldn’t be a hit. It went on to gross over $3.5 billion worldwide, so who knows? Maybe these creepy kitties can conjure up some serious coin at the box office.
