Promises Keep Bus Operator Hopeful

After a year of meetings at Queen’s Park a northern Ontario bus company owner is still waiting for provincial government assistance.

Kasper Wabinski owns Kasper Transportation, and tells us Northern Development Minister Greg Rickford personally told him the government agrees the region needs a bus service.

“Obviously that’s not always a simple thing to do with the government trying to reduce the deficit. It may be frustrating, the whole process of going through the hoops with the government.”

However, the transportation company owner adds he feels the government has the right people involved to help achieve his vision of providing service.

And, he says he’ll just keep forging ahead if the government doesn’t come through.

Not only is Wabinski talking with the Minister, but also the provincially run Ontario Northland bus service.

“Trying to be on good terms and work together on filling the need to the standards and expectations the customers have. It’s still in the process of being established.”

The Kasper Transportation owner adds he was in operation before Greyhound left, providing a service he felt was needed.

Northern Development minister Greg Rickford will only say he’s committed to working with private carriers and Ontario Northland, ever since Greyhound ended service.

“I saw this more of an opportunity, given the long and painful retreat that they made.”
