Hockey commentator Don Cherry is no longer with Sportsnet after a backlash following a rant on Coaches Corner about immigrants and poppies. In a statement, the network says “after discussions with Cherry after Saturday night’s broadcast, it has been decided it is the right time for him to immediately step down.” Sportsnet added,”Cherry had made divisive remarks that do not represent our values or what we stand for.”
Always passionate about veterans and Remembrance Day, Cherry said, “You people…you love our way of life, you love our milk and honey, at least you can pay a couple bucks for a poppy or something like that.” Calls for his outster began almost immediately on social networks across the country.
