I’ve got a lot of ‘guilty pleasure’ movies, you know, movies that I watch when I’m feeling down but would never admit to friends that I actually watch regularly. Although I do sometimes slip and let out a quote from one of them that get me the ‘side-eye’ from a few friends. Mental Floss recently took a poll to see what people’s favourite guilty pleasure movies were and compiled a list of the top 60. I took a look through today and was surprised at some of the ones that were on there, and not surprised by some. I have actually seen 44 of the ones on the list (marked with an *) but I don’t know that I’d include many as guilty pleasures. I’ve only ever seen Showgirls once, for example, so I wouldn’t include that as a guilty pleasure. I have, however, watched Burlesque about 3 or 4 times since it hit Netflix, it’s so awful it’s good (I love Christina Aguilera’s voice though), so I’d include that as a guilty pleasure. I definitely wouldn’t think of Labyrinth as a guilty pleasure, it’s such a fantastic movie! I thought Venom was quite well done, same with Signs, though I have to say that M. Night Shyamalan’s movies haven’t done much for me since. I don’t think I’ve seen Johnny Dangerously since I was a teenager, but I do still occasionally call people ‘Farging Icehole’, which really only makes me laugh…I actually may need to rewatch that one. As far as Bad Taste goes, I’ve never seen it but I do love Peter Jackson’s later film Braindead (aka Dead Alive) which is one of the best/worst horror movies I’ve ever seen.
