An estimated 500 people, many of them students who skipped school, rallied against climate change at the north side office of MP Patty Hajdu today.
Alina Cameron brought her two daughters to the so-called climate strike because she feels the issue is important for politicians to address and that “we need to act now.”
Superior high school student Benjamin Ponka attended because he believes “climate change is a big deal” and “people just push it away.”
The effort today is part of a week of action around the world to draw attention to what organizers believe to be a climate crisis.
The movement was inspired by Swedish student Greta Thunberg who is credited with raising global awareness on the issue.
Alina Cameron says Thunberg was definitely a reason she and her daughters attended today’s rally in Thunder Bay.
