Cannabis Store Policy Coming To Council

Applications for a cannabis licence in Thunder Bay are underway, and City Council is preparing a policy for their staff on how best to respond to the Alcohol and Gaming Commission once they’ve announced the successful company.

Mayor Bill Mauro tells us they have some concerns because they don’t have complete control over this provincial process.

“I mean obviously you are a little bit concerned when you don’t have that complete site plan control like you normally would. When we move forward, we obviously need to have a plan in place where the store can be located in conjunction with what the province says. We will submit our recommendations to the province.”

The cannabis retail store policy is coming to Council for approval Monday night.

Once the site is announced, the public and the city will have 15 days to comment.
