City Could Recognize Dease Pool Legacy

Two options involving Dease Pool are coming before City Council Monday night.

The Heritage Advisory Committee is recommending they designate the 106-year-old facility as a heritage site due to its cultural and heritage significance.

Mayor Bill Mauro tells us he’s not sure if the designation would reverse council’s decision to close the pool.

“You know, there’s already been a decision that’s been ratified by Council relative to the pool. I don’t imagine that the designation would have any capacity to impact that decision, but we don’t know for sure what the designation means,” Mauro admits. “We are still looking into that.”

The other option before Councillors is using the pool site for similar programming and commemorating it with a plaque.
