Evacuees Start Process Of Returning Home

Evacuees from Pikangikum First Nation are starting to head back to their homes.

City Manager Norm Gale tells us they have received word some evacuees left Wednesday while more are leaving Thursday.

“People have started to return on their own volition and we’re not involved in the formal part of repatriating those people, but I can tell you they have started to return.”

The City Manager doesn’t know how many people have already left and how many are leaving Thursday.

Forest fires forced the community out of their home and into other cities in Ontario and Saskatchewan.
